WOVEN WAVES

Washington, D.C.

Woven Waves was created during the Nation’s Largest festival of STEM in Washington, D.C. and is the result of a collaboration between Coral Restoration Foundation™ and ARTsea.

Over the course of three days, event-goers who stopped by the CRF booth to learn about critically endangered elkhorn and staghorn corals, also got a chance to express their love for the ocean by weaving a horizontal row across the loom. Little by little, the rows of 600 unique individuals added up, culminating in a 4 foot tall tapestry.

The exoskeleton of an elkhorn coral, one of the species CRF is relentlessly trying to save from extinction, adorns the top of this tapestry as an emblem of hope.
